At the heart of it

The Ships engines deep thrumming in the distant background - the sound and smell of the Ocean lapping against the Harbor wharfs, while its distant body rages itself against the shore, lights glinting across the bay and the murmur of people after a satisfyingly relaxing Sunday chilling to all of the above.

That’s what greeted us as we arrived at Zacks @ Wilsons Wharf. After helping Loz unload and set up his drum kit we took our beers around the side of the building and sat with our legs dangling over the worn concrete wall that dropped down to the harbor waters.

Absorbing it all as we sat there four, the shear size of the cranes used to load the ships against the size of the ships themselves which aren’t small, the realization that this part of the city never sleeps and as such the city doesn’t sleep. Just rests, there has always been a vibe about Durban, a great one, and I’ve always had the sense that it never sleeps, merely moves into moments of restfulness (which are beautiful when you’re in them).

Now I was looking at its heart surely, the clank and clunk and deep thrumping sound of the engine that drives the blood of this city, surely Durban is a tourist town – but this is where it started this is where it grew from, the rest is just the prettiness that has been appreciated. This is the biggest shipping port in Africa, and you can tell, though so often we don’t see it as we’re absorbed in one of its other many beautiful distractions…

I liked seeing the grit of what pushes its pulse though, attractive to me in its own right, the same way that a fathers sweat work streaked arms are attractive to his young child. There’s a security there in its solidity, as Loz said so long as you see the Ships lining up to get into Durban Harbour you know the economy is doing okay.

We finished off our beers and headed inside to tune up our guitars and get ready for the show, it was our first performance in Durban as the band, and we didn’t want to disappoint.

We gazed back over the water at the bump and clang just as we’d loaded the last of Loz’s drums back into his Car, sipping at the last of our beers. The shake of hand and hugged shoulders for a shared experience, then a drive like slumbering pushed blood into one of the city’s resting organs.

Well well well (three holes in the ground). So it's the new year and Zephyr is looking to get "back on the circut" so to speak! Woo hoo! So, to that end . . . . . . . . we have been asked to play at a certain local establishment from 10am 'till 7pm on Saturdays or Sundays. Realistic or not? Hmmmmmmm . . . . . . . . we'll let you be the judge of that and possibly come up with some suggestions as to how we might proceed :-). Hear from y'all soon. Over and out. The Wizard from Oz.

B.O.B. says Bye! (for now)

Once again its been a while since we last updated. Band of Brothers (unofficially abbreviated to BOB) have been going strong and rocking crowds at various places and venues. The Maritzburg Music Club gig was a huge success and the boys rocked "around the clock" til voices were hoarse on stage and hands were aching from the clapping along in the crowd. They even got a standing ovation at the end of the performance, a rare occurence for the usually mellow-maritzburgers.
Band of Brothers then graced Lunar Lounge with a show at the Shamwari stage in Drummond. A few broken strings, some frozen fingers and a broken drum skin later, it all turned out well (with the help of a few glasses of red wine afterwards!) The most recent performance was at Forest Gate in Howick and once again there were broken strings but all in all we pulled it off and the venue was well-suited to the vibey sounds of the band.
Unfortunately White Mountain didnt happen for us this year but hopefully we'll back there soon.

The next gig will be on the 17th Oct, at Cliffy's in Lincoln Meade, PMB. The band will be reverting to Zephyr for this gig and probably sticking with that again more from now. Band of Brothers will not fall away completely but be kept on as a side-project. There is also a fundraiser on the 31st of Oct where Band of brothers have a slot at the Forgotten Falls in Howick so come along and support a good cause (the money rasied will go to Darren Bode's medical expenses as he had a car accident earlier this year).

Keep up the support as the end of the year draws near and "see you there".

Okay it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here, only our post Splashy write up, quite a bit’s happened since then.
The Band is continuing to play under the Name Band of Brothers, though Zephyr’s not lost and gone, just on the Backburners for now.
All our news, updates, gigs & doings of the Band will still be here on our Blog and the Zephyr Website.

So what’s the update on what’s been happening and what’s going on, since I last wrote Band of Brothers opened for Jason Hartman (brother of Scott who drummed for us at Splashy and when we opened for his brother) Idols winner at Pecan wood estate. It was a great concert and the crowd was awesome. Besides us and Jason another act on the night were Gonzo Republic, who I (and the rest of the Band actually) really enjoy, they’ve got their own unique sound and stage presence. So we had a really enjoyable evening, and it was very cool to open for my good friend Jason (did I ever mention that he taught me to play guitar) just after his Idols win.

Anyway so moving forward with the news, unfortunately Scott being as busy musically as he is with his own stuff and playing with his now very much in demand brother was never going to be a permanent feature, though we loved playing with him, this has now opened the door to new friendships and Musical relationships. Band of Brothers has been joined now by a new drummer in Loz Smith, and we’ve all been working hard together coming up with new songs and teaching Loz some of the older ones. It’s been fun, but now we’re ready to get out there as this new Musical Machine and flaunt ourselves to you the fantastic Public.
Our first gig as this new unit will be at the PMB Musicians club, and we’re really looking forward to entertaining the local crowds, we’re also hoping to head up to the Newcastle folk club a bit later this year.

Then in September (24th to the 27th to be exact) we’re hoping to get into White Mountain Folk Festival – it’s a really awesome festival up in the Berg outside of Escourt, and along with Splashy Fen this is one of my favorite’s festivals. Part of what I love about it is that it’s a folk festival, which basically means all the Bands that play there have to play Acoustics, which makes it such a mellowed out festival with rich sounding easy listening music, and it’s a great time to see some of your favorites bands playing in a slightly different format, with different takes on some of their favorites songs.

Anyway that’s all from me for now, I will try and make some more regular updates to let you all know what’s been happening and what is happening.

Splashy Fen

So Band of Brothers had it’s first gig at Splashy fen (Click here for Photo's) and it went down really well, we had a few problems with the onstage sound – unable to hear our vocals and guitars that well, but the sound in front of the stage was good and the crowd we’re really great.
The nice thing about Splashy and similar music festivals is being able to meet and chat to other muso’s some who we’ve met before and others we haven’t, maybe even get together and have a Jam around the fire.

Scott, Jeremy and I were also joined by Chris Wyatt on the day - for a last minute addition it worked really well, we’d only had one practice with Scott and that morning did a run through of the songs with Chris but we managed to pull it off. We really enjoyed playing the two new songs “We Dance” and “Trailblazer Jack” and the crowd loved them too. So if you were there at Splashy sitting in the crowd, thanks for the support it was awesome and we’re looking forward to getting stuck into some new gigs soon.

BETWEEN FESTIVALS

Its been a while and although quiet online, life has been busy. Christmas came and went with the usual abundance of good food and drink and new year was seen in, civilly in the outdoors as it should be! The champagne was flowing freely though! ;-)
So between festivals Zephyr has been gently floating on the breeze and working on new songs and refining older ones. Liam graced the Maritzburg Music Club with his melodies on Tues 3 March and the audience enjoyed the laid back set. He was followed by some Durban talent that were hip and vibey and well-received by us small-town folk!
Of course the countdown is on til the BIG Splashy Fen and what a weekend its going to be! With the line-up of all line-ups and a new-look Zephyr-morph who will be known as Band of Brothers playing on Friday (11h20) with the super-talented Scott Hartmann (the adopted brother of the trio) drumming for the Mathias' it'll be fun all round and they'll be sure to kick start the second half of the day in a rocking way!

The Band of Brothers Project

Myself and my Brother Jeremy have always wanted to get together and play with another talented brother combination, who also happen to be good friends Jason and Scott Hartman – is it a coincidence that they play Guitar and Drums and we play guitar and Bass respectively, that already in that you have your Basic Band Makeup – maybe but I like to think it’s a good omen.

Like us their common genes and similarity of voice produce awesome Harmonies, heck you could take away the instruments and have an awesome male acapela group.

Truth be told we have Jammed with them before, and I (in the days before my brother picked up a bass and realized his musical ability) played a few gigs with them, at one time also as an early version of Zephyr.

Why am I calling it a project and not a band… well “Band of Brothers” is a band, though it’s a side project from each of our respective bands. (the Hartman brothers play and have played under different band names, very often with their Father, Sam. Band names they’ve played in or under are, Samson, Justus, One River and Redeye to name a few)

Of course we’d love the project to grow into a full time Band if it were well received and supported, but that’s something we’ll have to gauge down the line, from all parties concerned. Personally I would also love to do some song writing and hopefully produce a CD as band of brothers, but again as a unit we haven’t all sat down to talk about the possibilities.

For now though Band of brothers is going to be doing a first performance at this years Splashy Fen… well in a sense, because Jason due to his own talent won’t be able to join us. The good man has gone and got himself into the top ten of Idols, while we are super stoked for him, means the full band of brothers will have to wait for another opportunity to get to play alongside one another.

The three of us however are just as exicted to get up and rock Splashy Fen, which we will, so get your camping gear out, because Band of Brothers is heading to Splashy Fen!

White Mountain Folk Festival

More than music at White Mountain

Start ticking off the days and get ready for White Mountain 2008 – KwaZulu-Natal’s only acoustic music festival that promises more than 40 live acts over five days, as well as a host of other activities for the whole family. Coinciding with Heritage Day and the start of the school holidays, the festival runs from 24-28 September and is held at White Mountain Lodge in the foothills of the Giant's Castle Nature Reserve, just 34km from Estcourt on tarred roads and 200km from Durban.

Included in the line-up are Prime Circle, John Ellis of Tree63, Syd Kitchen, Laurie Levine, Maisha, Black Cat Bone, Cabins in the Forest and many others, all of whom will perform acoustic sets either on the main marquee stage, in the lodge’s 150-year-old restaurant and pub (Tom’s Tavern) or around the pool. See below for the full programme.

Food, beer and craft markets
Aside from the live music, there’ll also be a variety of food stalls and a beer market featuring naturally brewed ales, lagers, draughts and fruit beers from Nottingham Road Brewing Company, Bavaria Breweries, Shongweni Brewery and the full selection of SAB brands.

Not to be missed is the craft market where you’ll find original handcrafted wares, ranging from aluminium flutes and other musical instruments to stained glass, pewter and copper décor items, artworks, colourful hammocks, clothing and jewellery, as well as massage therapy and organic healing creams. Supported by the Imbabazane Municipality, crafters from the local community will also showcase their intricate bead, wire and woven goods. And rest assured, Standard Bank’s Saswitch-enabled mobile ATM facilities will be available around the clock for when the shopping bug bites!

Outdoor activities
With even more outdoor activities on offer this year, festival-goers are going to be spoilt for choice and the dilemma is going to be in deciding how to fit it all in! Kids will be able to enjoy fun and games coordinated by White Mountain’s team of qualified instructors, while adventure-seekers can look forward to abseiling, paintball and a fuffi slide across a nearby 100m-wide gorge, with helicopter flips also available if the weather permits. Or there’s always swimming, hiking, boating or bass fishing in either of the lodge’s two dams. There’ll be great prizes up for grabs for catching the biggest fish, so don’t forget to bring your rods and tackle!

You’ll also have an opportunity to glide on the world’s only ‘self-balancing personal transport system’, called a Segway. These two-wheel battery operated machines work together with tilt sensors and gyroscopes to make for a totally unique experience. Give one a try on the specially designed track which will be operational throughout the festival.

With all of this on offer, how many more reasons do you need to pack up the family and head to White Mountain for a long weekend of fun and music in one of the most scenic spots in the central Drakensberg? Tickets are available at Game stores (R350), Computicket (R400) and at the festival gate (R450). Children under 12 pay R50 – tickets at the gate only. White Mountain Festival

Hey all.
So change is in the air but Zephyr will still blow on (and... on... -to the tune of my heart will go on:-) The Hillside Concert was an absolute success and the crowd loved Zephyr who heated things up in the afternoon sun, stirring souls and warming hearts. With everyone being super-busy, their manager-lady deserting them to go be the princess of the lemurs, and Colin gearing up for a big move, its been quite quiet. But as one last gig as the Zephyr we know and love they playin at the White Mountain Music Festival. Catch them at midday in the bar (Tom's Tavern) on the friday. Doing an acoustic set, it'll be an awesome atmosphere and not to be missed!

What a venue, what a crowd, what music and what a day, Sunday’s Hillside concert was brilliant, I definitely think it’s up there with one of our favorite gigs to date. Due to time constraints and the amount of bands, The four local bands (us included) only had a half hour time slot which included our set up time.

We did manage to get through the 5 songs we’d chosen to do though, the onstage sound was great, I think it’s the first time in a while, the whole band had absolutely no complaints about something being to low or too loud. I must just let you know this isn’t the easiest thing to achieve, what the Audience is hearing in front of the stage isn’t always what we’re hearing on it, and that makes a big difference to our performance, because if we can’t really hear what we’re sounding like, we don’t know if we’re playing it right or not.

The bands of the day were great, the Ryan Calder band kicked the afternoon off to an awesome start with some great songs, and really set the tone for the afternoon, they were followed by us, then Ilan lux, The Hairy Legged lentil Eaters, Magna Carter and then Southern Gypsey Queen ended off the wonderful afternoon.

The Substantial crowd which turned out to support the concert were great, and by the looks and sound of it had a good time of it all, seated up the hill which acted as a Natural amphitheatre everyone could get a view of the stage and we could get a look at everyone.

It is a beautiful venue, and I think I speak for most the musicians and audience when I say I hope it becomes an annual event.

It’s been a while – been pretty busy at work, and outside of work so not much chance to post anything. Well the bands got a busy couple weeks ahead of them with a gig this Saturday and then two next weekend to fit into our bustling lifestyle.

The sad news is that our long time friend and Drummer Colin Arbuckle will be leaving us for greener pastures in October, him and his family have decided to move to Spain, but fear not this is not the end of Zephyr, myself and my brother (Jeremy) have decided we will continue on, and even now are in the process of looking for a New Drummer. Though we’ll probably also be doing a lot of stuff with just the two of us.
What all of this does mean though is that you’ve got to catch as many as our gigs between now and September, so you can see the Lively mister Arbuckle doing his thing behind his drums, and sometimes infront (depends what mood he's in). Each performance is and will be special, and it’s not likely you going to be seeing the same show twice, we’re going to squeeze every last minute we have of playing with him.

Next weekend we’ll be playing a fundraising event for our lovely band manager who’s raising funds for a research trip she’s been accepted onto to Madagascar, where she’ll be doing research on our furry friends the Lemurs. The Following day we’ll be playing the big one at the Botanical Gardens with the Likes of Magna Carter and Southern Gypsy Queens, Hairy legged lentil eaters Ilan and Ryan Calder. More on those gigs Later.

That brings us to this Saturday, we don’t often get the chance to play in Durban, so we thought we’d rectify that. The People at the Dock Yard theatre have opened their doors to the likes of musicians like us to do a performance after their show. So it’s a late night dinner theatre type thing. From 11pm this Saturday (12th July) catch us at The Dockyard Theatre in Musgrave for a great evening of musical entertainment.

At the Red Door

A week later and finally I get round to posting about our last gig with Redeye at the Red Door – well it was great, and we had a lot of fun – the Audience was great, it was great to see so many people we know out to support us, it’s nice to be able to chat to people you know in the crowd before and after you’ve played. Redeye were great as usual and we’re really looking forward to playing with them again at the Royal Show on the 23 May, so look out for both of us there.

In other news my awesome coworker is doing some great work in designing our website, so that should be up and running in the near future… now we just need to get that CD out.

Heating it up in May

We’re shifting gear as we head into the cooler part of the year – Yup Zephyr’s getting ready to warm your souls and heat up your hearts, there are four gigs in the pipeline for us in May, some yet to be finalized, but mostly definite.

The first would be at Swissland Cheese in the Midlands (2 May) for an afternoon of relaxing and enjoying great music in serene surroundings, there will be two other artist at this function yet to be confirmed, but we’ll keep you updated.

The next would be at the PMB Musicians Club (6 May) – hosted by the Red Door, in Quarry Ave. off Victoria St in PMB, the musicians club is always a great gig for us and we love the crowd there. A big bonus is we should be joined on the night by our very Good friends and fellow Musicians Red Eye, who will definitely have you grooving the night away.

During the month we should hopefully be playing the backing music to the visual feast at art in the park, myself and Colin really enjoyed ourselves last year, playing our music set in the Autumn trees surrounded by amazing artwork, and we’re really looking forward to enjoying it again with Jeremy there.

Then we’ll be rounding off the Month bye kick starting the Royal Show into action on Friday 23rd, where once again we’ll be accompanied by Redeye and another one or two bands, yet to be confirmed.

So hold onto your hats, ‘cause Zephyr’s going to be blowing strong through the month of May – We’ll be posting more details on each of the gigs closer to the time, but we thought we’d just let U in a little earlier so you can prepare yourself.

Our Splashy Gig

Nerves rung high backstage as Colin Jeremy and myself sat in our own private partition, tuning our instruments, running through harmonies and chord sequences and then making sure our instruments were in tune again. We tried forcing back the nerves by drinking numerous cups of coffee and tea that were supplied, only to find this made us need the portaloo outback more.

This was a gig, we’d done it before, what was with all the Nerves – Well to be fair we’d been out of gigging for a few months, but the probable answer was “this is Splashy Fen, Even the Big Name Bands have been telling me how nervous they were” as Sue the backstage manager put it. I’m sure the more renowned older hands delt with their nerves better than we were, but I bet they had them none the less.

The time came, the band before us played the last chord of their last song, and suddenly we were asking each other “do we go on now?”. We entered onto the stage, bearing our instruments and studiously avoiding looking at the Crowd, instead focusing on setting up. We ran through our sound checks, in what felt like a bit of a blur. Then before you knew it we were into the first song and the crowd cheering signaled its end. The Nerves barely left me as I played but I was held solid by the crowd’s applause and the Smiling encouragement from faces of friends and loved ones.

We were fortunate enough to have Kech Sanchez accompanying us on two of our songs “Watching Satellite” and “Maybe Angels” – he’s an accomplished musician, and Good friend and he definitely brings something to our songs, filling them out with his Haunting Pipes.

Jeremy and Colin were as Solid as ever on Bass and Drums respectively, though Jeremy said to me after he was Just as nervous as I. Colin seemed to be having an awesome time and rocked the whole way through - all in all it was a great gig, but passed by rather fast, if you were there, thanks for the support – the Audience was great.

Anticipating Splashy Fen

Anticipation… right now it’s like sitting in a playhouse or large musical production, and you can hear the Orchestra warming up, all the stringed instruments warming up along with the wind section getting the reeds wet, with the occasional cough from the audience and you know at any second now it’s going to start.

03 Days Until Splashy fen 2008 gets underway – and the excitement is mounting, almost everyone I’ve spoken to is going, and yes it’s going to be great. Aside from really looking forward to playing there, I really can’t wait to pull up a splash of grass, get comfortable, and enjoy some quality SA music. Being a musician you get exposed to a load of local talent, either playing along side them or supporting your fellow musicians. The talent in South Africa is amazing, and the sounds so fresh, and it feels like an age since I’ve been able to sit back and enjoy the plethora of sounds I’ll be able to enjoy this weekend – I’ve been checking out the splashy Program and following links to the band/ musicians respective sights, and listening to some of their tracks and it’s really been getting me in the mood for sitting in front of the stage in three days time… as for being on the stage a couple days after… well I know the crowd and the beautiful scenery will have the band ready to share their musical souls.

It’s the big one once again! If you love music and the beautiful outdoors then this is the event of the year for you Splashy Fen kicks of in a few weeks time. And that’s the next time to see the band in action. Zephyr loves this festival and has been working hard in the practice room to come up with a brilliant play list and we’re really looking forward to this one. There’s going to be a great line up of Local and International Musicians this year (click through on the link to get to the Splashy Page and have a look at the program) so get there as early as you can and stay until the last musical note has been played. Call in sick – tell them your favorite goldfish “spot” died and you're holding a service, just make a plan and get there. Zephyr will be playing on the Sunday afternoon, and there’s a great line up of bands on the Sunday evening, so make sure your set up to stay until Monday (which is a Public Holiday).

It’s that time of year again, and I can’t wait. The organizers are holding a competition this year for musicians to write a song for Splashy, which I heard about while I was on that cold wet island – so bumbled around on my brothers guitar a bit and ended up finishing the song a week or so ago. Which we have recorded and will be sending in soon, and this is the cover I designed for it which I think is pretty cool. Whether our song gets chosen or not, we’ll see, but either way we’ll more than likely be playing anyway – and I’m definitely going. So who’s up for another splashy experience? What a great night Saturday was – to all of you who were there thank you for joining us the crowd support was awesome. It was so great to play with Redeye, they are all good friends of ours and we’ve been meaning to do a gig together for a long time now. So big thanks to them for coming all the way down from Jo’burg, the evening was everything we expected it to be and more.
At the moment that’ll be our last gig of the year, as my brother and I are visiting family in December, if a gig pops up between now and then we’ll let you know.
Words really can’t express how much we enjoyed Saturday, that’s why this post is so short.

Expanding Horizons...

Hey again! I’m back due to popular demand. (Ha! Not really, but hey!) Not that I’m really anyone to say but, I’ve always claimed a band who can pull off covers successfully deserve the utmost respect and recognition. Its no easy task “replicating” (there’s the scientist in me coming out!) or duplicating the brilliance of a world-famous band, especially one of Coldplay’s standard and class!
But Zephyr does it again and again!
“Til Kingdom Come” is just the most recent addition to their repertoire and its not just Coldplay, but many other varied bands as well. This clearly shows their diversity and versatility and some may say its brave, which it is, but if it’s done properly, a cover can earn an enormous amount of appreciation from the public to a band.
So can Zephyr do it? For sure!
Ambitious, yes. Successful? Definitely!

It’s taken a while but finally I finished a song I’ve been meaning to for a while now, work wise I’ve finally reached a place of breathing space so I sat down when I had some time and finished off the song. Zephyr & The Gloucester Blues Project

So as a "guest blogger" on the zephyr website i'll try keep this short and painless. I just couldnt let a gig go by without letting people know. So here's the deal...
Zephyr are playing along with The Gloucester Blues Project on Saturday nite (the 6th of October) at Red Door, Pmb. Its a fundraiser event for Hylton Smith to race the UAE Dubai Desert Challenge and the cost is 30 human rands (as Corne and Twakkie would say) at the door.
Guaranteed it'll be worth your while travelling from where-ever (even the uk, or china:) to come check these guys out {ok,ok, so i mite be biased, but it really would be worth a trip up from Durbs, or anywhere in the province, at least}. The line up is lookin and sounding good and its going to be a 'bopping and jiving' nite with unique sounds from both the bands playin.
Studio 1, -Uniting Dance-, will also be doing a fire performance between sets and i can assure u from 1st hand experience this'll be cool! - Well.... quite hot actually, but from a bit of distance its impressive stuff!
With fire spinning, good music and friends, this is going to be nite to remember! Be there!

It’s been an age since I’ve added any updates – mostly because I’ve been hectically busy at work (I still am) – and ‘cause we’ve been pretty quite lately.
So what was the last update?... Oh yeah art in the park, so since then myself and Colin did two gig’s a couple Saturday’s ago, just the two of us – one at the opening of Marshal Music at Cascades centre in PMB the other at a charity gig held at Cliffies, both were mostly just acoustic sets, being just the beatman and myself. Another reason for this was Jeremy had decided to take some time off, which myself and Colin are pleased he has decided to come back from, some songs just don’t sound the same without his bass and backing vocals.

We’ve also had a couple practices with a new guy Gareth, who also plays guitar; we’re in the process of assimilating him to our sound and songs – so far sounding pretty good, but as I say it’s still in process at the moment.

We’ve got an upcoming Gig down in Margate on Thursday, so we’re keen to see what the crowds are like down on the South Coast, and a couple really cool Ideas banging around in our heads, but we can’t reveal any of that just yet… so stay tuned, and hopefully we’ll see you all out there somewhere soon.

Wrapped up warm in winter woolies - the crunch of leaves underfoot - the rusty smell of autumn and beautiful art, perhaps accompanied with a glass of mulled wine as you peruse all the beauty all around you - what more could you want, some pleasant music in the background perhaps?

The Annual "Art in the Park" in Alexander park in 'Maritzburg is almost upon us, it's the weekend of the 1st June, and myself and Colin (Jeremy will be in the middle of exams) are going to be playing there from 12 - 2pm on Saturday the second and 2 -4pm the following day.

So come along and enjoy the wonders of autumn in the park, search for some artwork for your homes, and enjoy some pleasant background music.
It's been a while since we've done something like this (myself and Colin played there a good few years ago) - we'll be doing few covers and some of our mellow originals between the two days.

Rocking on Saturday

Once again it was a great pleasure to play alongside Dan Patlanski, the guy really is amazing on guitar.

We really enjoyed the set and the crowd was great, so thanks a lot to those of you that were there, you guys made it. I’m sure Charlene appreciated it to.
I was really chuffed that a bunch of my friends from Durban made it up, thanks guys I had an awesome eve. We ended up getting home pretty late, so Sunday was a really lazy day, but I had the memories of the night before to get me through it.

We haven’t got much lined up for the next month, but we’ll be taking the time to work on some new songs and dust out some old ones, I really enjoy getting as much new or new-old stuff into our line up, because we don’t feel like we’re playing the same stuff and those of you who support us regularly don’t have to listen to the same songs again.
Rumor has it my brother Jeremy (the bassist) has a song he’s been writing in the pipeline and myself and Colin are eager to get our grubby little fingers on it and get him up there singing one of his songs, so watch out for it.

A great Night

Yesterday Afternoon saw me escaping from the office at 1:30, picking up my brother and Colin on the way home, where we hitched our trailer packed with our equipment and bags and hit the Road to Newcastle.

None of us knew what to expect but we new we wanted to rock and we we’re exited at playing somewhere a lot further a field from our base.

Let’s just say it was an evening beyond our expectations, the crowd was awesome, those Newcastlers area a friendly bunch and they know how to give it stick.
There were a couple of really talented local groups that played before us, and Then Eryn Fourie from PMB set the stage for us, from the first song the crowd gave us a welcome reception that put us on a high to carry us through the night, we invited Angus up non stage to join us for the last couple of songs that ended up being four with the encores.
It was definitely one of my Favorite gig’s to date and the Newcastle crowd has got to be thanked for that - you guys Rock!

This morning we left the hospitality of Angus’s’ house and set out on the long journey home, it was early and we’d only had about 4 hours sleep, but there was a satisfied silence in the car we’d played and had fun and so it seems did the crowd.
As I took in the beautiful scenery in the morning sunshine as I steered us homeward I reflected to my fellow musicians that if we were able I would quite happily do this everyday, go on a long Road trip/Tour of the country... perhaps one day soon.

Saturday Night

Saturday night sees us playing with Dan Patlansky at The Red Door in PMB, the gig is a fundraiser for our local female BMX champion, currently ranked 4th. She’s trying to raise funds for a ticket to the states where she can compete for the number one position. So being the nice guys we are of ‘course we said yes when she asked if we’d play - and obviously the chance to play alongside Dan Patlansky was also a big incentive, the dude just rocks and is a really nice guy too.

The Saturday itself is actually a friend of mines birthday and she designed this really cool invite to all her friends to join her there - so cool that I asked her if I could post it here and extend the invite to all of you out there, it’ll be awesome. If you happen to bump in to Van, buy her a drink.

Tonight though we head up to Newcastle in our new mission to spread our music to all the places that will host us, so we’re looking forward to it a long drive though.

Little Steps

Above are a couple of options my friend "noodle" came up with, simple but cool!

Above is another option I've tried with warmer colours, different logo.
Jeremy and I added the vocal tracks to the two tracks that will be going on our demo, it's strange recording is a completely different process to playing live. We play well live because we feel the song through each other, have got so used to playing in practice with that person when they're going to change the beat or chord or whatever.
But try and keep time with a prerecorded version of that same person and it's a whole different story.
And so it was that on thursday evening we decided to record ourselves all playing live and get the best takes we could out of that for the demo, there were quite a few takes I can tell you, and quite a few blunders and laughter, but we got them done in the end.
Then on Sunday Jeremy and I went back and put the vocal tracks over, Barry was having issues with his Computer he wanted it to work and it was doing anything but, eventually we got our chance and got the vocals down chop chop, if only playing were as easy as the singing part.
Anyway the picture is an Idea I came up with for the cover, though I haven't settled on it yet, I've asked a couple of My friends (whjo happen to be designers) to give it a crack if they'd like to, so I'll see what they come up with.

Last Nights Gig

It was a great return to action after a long period of non playing, and we really enjoyed it, the crowd was really great and as always at the Red Door, so was the sound.
There were a lot of nerves before hand it was the first time Colin would be playing his new Electric drums live and we had been so long out of playing live we were wondering if we could still handle it. Everything went smooth though and we were happy with the way things went.
Much must be said for Steve and Tara Fataar (whom we were supporting) they put in a great performance with his great guitaring and her amazing and powerful voice, it was a good time our retinue returned home at about 12 and then continued to sit up until 1:30 this morning, so I’m Tired but happy.

Next up is Newcastle on the 8th which were really looking forward too, before we return on the 12th to backup Dan Patlansky.

So last night we bashed (not really) our way through our set for tonight and refined ourselves in a couple places. We’re playing a new song that’s still got wet ink on ‘cause I only just finished writing the Lyrics, but we’re all relatively happy with it and are hoping you’re all going to love it - it’s called Step by Step, so if you’re there listen out for it.

We’re supporting the Fatars (I hope I spelt that right) at the PMB musicians club at the Red Door in PMB tonight, in case any of you didn’t know.

It’s been a while since we’ve played, and I think we’re all really exited to get back on stage and just enjoy the music.

Autumn Winds

Life is spontabulous - (spontaneously fabulous - a word a friend came up with after one of my spelling errors).
It’s a beautiful autumn/early winter here in the midlands of KZN, the sun is shining down, and not in the overly oppressive way it can in summer, but in the soul and heartwarming way it does in winter.
Soon the grass will turn gold and the leaves will shed their autumn coats, the bright blue sky will stand out in contrast to the bare stark landscape and for a moment all will stand silent.
For now we have autumn and its rich rusty colours, and I’m loving it, still warm enough to wear shorts and slops - but cool enough to wear longs if you’d like. Sleeping in or reading a book in bed is comfortable, because it’s nice to be warm and snuggled up, but you’re arm doesn’t freeze when you take it out from under the covers to turn the page.
This is autumn and I love it’s pastel beauty, below are the lyrics to one of the earliest songs I ever wrote, I guess even back then Autumn held something special for me

Last night the band were working on our recently finished new song “Step by Step”
I really love playing new stuff, so if you’re going to be at the Red Door on Tuesday, you’ll be the first people to hear it live. I really enjoy it, in fact I think we all do, in our long hibernatory period the bands been playing around with our sound and been coming up with a whole lot of new tunes, but I’ve been battling with the lyrics, and so finally I’ve broken my block and got something down. Latest News & Gigs and basically whats up!

Okay so what’s the latest? Well Myself & Jeremy had a great weekend at Splashy being inspired and drawn in by all the music and mud - yup it was pretty wet.
Colin decided he wasn’t quite up for it this year, so he stayed at home working on the settings on his new Electric drum kit. Oh yes that’s news a couple weeks ago he took the plunge and a large financial loan and went out and bought himself an electric drum kit! We’ve only had a few practices with it, but it’s cool and it brings a whole new dynamic to the band so much so that we’ve been coming up with new tunes every practice, and now suddenly I need to write a load of lyrics, something that I never have to much trouble normally, but recently I’ve faced a bit of a block. I’ll get over it though, you’ve just gotta let the words come.
We’ve also finally made the step of getting the next one of us into the studio, Colin’s booked with Barry for Tuesday night, if I can I’ll go in and lend him my ear and support.
As Far as gigs go, we have a few lined up in the near future, I just gotta remember all the dates. We’ll be playing in two areas of Natal we’ve not ventured into yet, Newcastle and Margate and we’ll be picking up in extra gigs we can get when we head down to Margate.
Before all of this though we’ll be playing at the Pietermaritsburg Musicians Club on the 24th of April, doing a bit of a support act, so if you’re in the area come check us out.

Listen to the Rough cut

The Start of recording on Saturday went well, I managed to Get down 7 rough cuts of our songs - but it is definitely looking good so far.
Barry was really helpful as I just ran through as many songs as I could on the day and now at least we have a platform to do our proper recordings on.
That evening a myself and Jeremy went with our family and friends to the music evening they have at the Forgotten Falls, we were asked if we would do a couple songs after the last band had played, so naturally we obliged and really enjoyed it.
I’ve added a link to the blog that leads to our Myspace, where I’ve uploaded a rough cut of one of the songs I recorded this weekend - this will just give you a basic Idea of what the final recording will sound like, as we will go in and complete the polished version with the rest of the band backing us. The Birth of an Album?

So it seems some forward progress has been made on our avowed recording, let me say this in our defence though - unfortunately we’re all busy at work or studying, Jeremy’s In his third year studying Industrial phsycology, Colin’'s running his business - and I’m being kept busy at work as well.We decided the best way to go about it was for me to go in and record the songs we’re wanting to do, each of us carrying a copy around with us, which gives us the chance to get the recorded song into our heads. Then we’ll all go in and put the proper recording down together - so that’s what I’'m doing this weekend. Heading Into Barry Meintjies (hope I spelt that right Barry) recording studio in ‘Maritzburg. Ragfest Concert

Once again, we’ve been asked to play at the Pietermaritzburg ‘Varsity "Ragfest", I’m not sure who else will be performing, last year we opened up for the Parlotones, which was pretty cool.
It’s being held on the 30th of March at the ‘Varsity Rugby fields, I’ll add more details when I know them.
The bands pretty phsyced about it and this year in general, we’ve got some really great new tunes and some awesome gig’s lined up, so catch us on the road.

I was up In Gauteng this weekend with work, and I was lucky enough to get the chance to meet up with my friend and fellow musician Jason. We’ve known each other since highschool and he’s the one who got me on my way playing guitar, teaching me as he was teaching himself.
Myself and some colleagues went to watch him play on Thursday night - I even got up and did a few songs with him which was nice, I aint played with him in a while and it’s always nice to Jam with an old friend.

Well my finger is still giving me trouble, but the call to play is to strong and I've started playing (though in a limited fasion) again. We've had our first couple practices of the year, and they've been very constructive and great fun. Though I haven’t relly been able to play alot of our songs (’cause I just can’t get my finger to do what I want it to).
We have been coming up with alot of very cool new stuff though and experimenting alot with our sound and I’m loving where it’s going. Hopefully my finger will sort itself out soon and we’ll be able to gety back up on stage soon.

Well not really - but I've been unable to play my guitar for over a week and it's really starting to get frustrating, I'm not sure how it happened, but some How I twisted/ sprained - did something silly, to my right index finger and I can't currently bend it properly at the joint, so I can't form any chords. Maybe I should take up Piano, then I wouldn't need to bend my fingers so much... or wait the triangle, now that's the way forward.

So we listened to our recording last night and though not absolutly horrible, we weren't happy with it and decided we'd rather wait until we get a decent version down before we let it loose out there. Quality is important, especially if your name's attatched to it. It wasn't all bad though - the DVD came out pretty well, and the quality of sound was not bad considering it was just coming through the DVD's mike - there is however a slight delay between the sound and the visuals, which if you're in the right mood can be quite amusing.

Our General sound on stage comes through though, which is good - I think at the moment I'd have to say we're a better live Band than a recorded band, somkething you can only work on and Improve, the more you do something the better you get at it, the good thing is now we have the time to work on our recording, which is exactly what we'll do. And here is where you'll find out first when it's available.
The new web design I'm working on should hopefully be up and running early next year, once I've gathered all the content and put the finishing touches to the Design - you'll be able to hear all the news, check out picks from our latest gigs and stuff, and hopefully once I've figured out how to do it download songs (which will also depend on when we get some tracks down.

Rough Cut

So last night Myself and Jeremy finished off the Vocals and Guitar and Bass to the three songs we we're recording for a demo. Though we've decided to call it rough cut, because of the time contraints we had, which prevented us from getting down exactly what we wanted. But it's done and wer'e happy it is, we can get it out to varoius festival organizers etc. and perhaps a few dedicated fans. We will be working on a more finished version shortly, something more complete, something we can take our time with.
For now though I need to get a copy of this one (once Steve has finished mixing it) down to Pedro in Durban so we can see if we can get into Splashy.

Dan the Man

This Saturday we'll be playing alonside Mr Dan Patlansky at the Red Door - which we're seroiusly chuffed about, Dan has played around the world including The New Orleans Jazz festival, he's a virtouso on the Guitar and really awsome to watch and hear. So the fact that we'll be setting the stage for him is a seroius bonus, if you've been to any of the last5 few Southern Crosses you would have been gifted to see him in action and know it'll be worht your while to do so again, with the added bonus of seeing us ;-) if you have never seen him before, now's the time.
Oh yeah the gig at the last Musicians club was awsome, great crowd and great musicians, if any of you were there, thanks for the support and compliments - it's a real boost.

Demo Recording

Last Night Colin, Jeremy and Myself headed to Hilton College’s Music Department to Start recording our demo. Colin was tired from work, I was tired from the flu and Jeremy was tired well, because he student on Holiday and decided to stay up to late the night before.
As alwaysthough playing seemed to lift all our spirits and energy levels, it was either that or the half dozen fizzy cooldrinks we drank in the time we were there. Whatever it was when we all left at 10:30 that evening we were definitely feeling alot better, though it wasn’t quite enough to completely cure me of the flu.
It was great however to be starting to make steps in the direction we’ve been threatening to over the past year, even though it’s just going to be a Demo it’s a step in the right direction.
Steven (the Guy doing the recording) has been really helpful and accomodating, and is great to work with, last night we put down the rough cut’s to three of our songs - “Watching Satelitte”, “Judas Kiss” and “2 second silences”. We’ll be going back at different times this week to play over each track individually to get the sound we want.
I have to say recording is fun, there’s an atmosphere about being in or around the studio, listening to each track and laughing at slip ups and each other.
So even though I’m bound to have a tiring week heading to the Studio after work it’ll be a fairly entertaining one.
Steven’ sgoing to be at the Musicians Club at the Red Door tonight to - make a DVD of us playing so if you’re coming wear your best smiles.
He also mentioned a short film he’s making and wanted to use one or two of our songs on it wich of ‘course we said definitely. Anyway back to work - keep well all

This Tuesday is the last Musicans club Gathering for the year, and yup we'll be one of the bands in the Line up, along with "The Hairy Legged lentle eaters" With a cuple of guests. We'll be Starting at 7:30pm. The Venue is "The Red Door" on Quary Road, just off Victoria.

Sometimes it’s something you work at, you have an Idea in your head, a theme, a tune - something specific. Those are normally the hardest or should I say most frustrating and time consuming, because it feels like it takes you forever to get to the point you want to be at. Other times it just happens in that moment when your sitting there at your piano, or in my case with your guitar in hand with a handy piece of paper and pencil; nearby (I really need to get a Dictaphone or something).
That’s what happened last weekend - there are very few songs I’ve written in half an hour, but this was one of them (Maybe Angels - written further down the page was another)-I wish I could explain the feeling that comes with writing one of these songs. It’s almost like a channeling that something more than you has decided to use you as the conduit for this melody and if you don’t grasp it in that moment it’ll be gone forever.
I promise you this happens too, I’ve had it before when I’ve had the song in my head and had to go and do something else and have not been able to grasp it again. The words flow, like wine amongst friends -you don’t have to work too hard to find the ones that express what you’re trying to say. Then suddenly it’s over and you have in your hand scribbled on a bit of paper, and you’re left sitting there wondering what just happened to you. That’s when you need to commit it to memory, because if you leave it to long the melody will leave you, you’ll have the words and the chords scratched down, but unless you can write music (which I can’t) the fundamental melody that binds it all together will leave you.
After all of this if you’re playing it with a band, it’s going to change and shift around those who play it as all songs do, but essentially it’s there.
I Cant’ post the words yet as I haven’t committed them to memory, but if you’re at our next gig, listen out for it, it’s called “Stand Up” (for now at least).

Helping Out

I don't know where she got our number from, but a couple of days ago I got a call from a Lady at the Hospice organization in 'Maritzberg asking if we'd be able to play at a general funraising day they're having there on the 25th, which is next Saturday. For those of you who don't know, hospice is an organization that goes around giving care and companionship to poeple with terminal illnesses, like Cancer.
The reason I know this is, I've had more than enough contact with them In the past two years, and they are good people that dedicate thier time to others. Firstly my Gran was diagnosed with and eventually died of cancer - and then not even a month Later my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, though she pulled through, tough Lady that she is, but my point is (and there is one I promise) is that they first visited my Gran when she was Ill, and then my mom. Alot of the time the biggest function they provide in those situations, is just someone to talk to about it, it's amazing how many people can't or wont.
I know I've gone on about it, but we'll definitely be playing there, so if you're in 'Maritzberg, or you fancy getting out for the day, come along. The Day starts in the morning and we'll be playing at 10-11am, but it'll be whole day affair. So come and Support Hospice, It's at 200 "Zwartcop Drive", which is what "Meyers Walk" becomes.

Alright I know it's been an age, I've been really busy at work these last couple weeks so... that's my reason and that's what I'm sticking to. We haven't confirmed any gigs for the festive season yet, but I will keep you posted. The last couple practices have been really fun and sounding great as we've been trying out some new things, So don't be surprized if you hear some new songs comeing out of this corner.

Animated Giffs

Thanks to my colleague, I now know how to make animated Giff’s - I thought I would post one up here, to see how it works (If it works).
You can get quite involved with them and end up spending hours on something that is only animated for a couple of seconds. It’s alot of fun though, if you got the time to spend making them - hey maybe you’ll see some more in the future if this one works. If it doesn’t then you never read this.

unfortunately we're not going to be playing with Zen Arcade anymore which is a pity, I was looking forward to a double "Z" billing. We still will however be playing, with another local band, Helpbreakmary, the evenings proceedings should be kicking off at around 8.30 pm, so get there if you can, it'll be a great one and we're definitely looking forward to it, so we hope to see you there. Next Gig!

Hey All
We've been asked to play with "Zen Arcade" at Cliffies on the 20th of this fine month of ROCKtober - that would be next friday, we're looking forward to it and hopefully by then I should have my Accoustic guitar back (I've been practicing and played one informal gig - with my electric, though while fun, needs a bit more work and experimenting with before hitting the big stage. Basically I need to get a decent guitar amp which would set me back a couple of grand, so not likely any time soon.) As i was saying I should have my accoustic back soon, she is in the very capable hands of Mr Pete Hanbury, a good friend and skilled Luthier (an instrument craftsman). My old pickup died on us in the middle of our set at Southern Cross (Jeremy and Colin you're stars - they managed to add in and adjust some of the songs so they were carried by the Bass and Drums), so Pete has fitted a new one and is doing some general maintenance repairs on her for me.
Unless you actually play an instrument as often as a gigging band does you don't really realize how much wear and tear your intruments endure.

I've just Found out a friend of mine lost her Dad a few weeks ago, news like this always hits you at your core - and despite the loss of lives all around the world the news of the loss of someone, (even if you don't know them personally - but they're close to someone you know well) creeps right under that guard you've built up to avoid letting in all the terrible things that happen in the world.

Southern Cross

This Southern cross will be a 1 year anniversary for the band, it was at last years festival that Jeremy picked up the Bass, and Colin officially joined Zephyr. Of course then we also had Chris playing with us, but alas he had to much on his plate to continue. We have progressed alot this year and we've been relly enjoying ourselves and had some brilliant gig's. It hasn't been easy fitting in our practices with our normal lives and in the near future we're planning on putting more practices in if we can, you only get out what you put in.
I digress back to the Festival, If you go to www.southerncrossmusic.co.za You can see the line up and some of the pictures from prevoius years. It is really a great festival, very relaxed and scenic and this year like every other has a great music line up. We'll be playing on the Friday Night at 7pm and probably doing a couple accoustic songs on Saturday as a filler, so if you're gonna be there watch out for us.

A Hard fought Battle

It's called battle of the bands and a battle it was, everyband on the night gave thier all and more, the Victors in the end were "WHite Chapel" and though close it was a deserved victory for them Their strongest points were thier Technicality and stage precence. I would definitley say we had the edge in originality and Versatility as most the bands we were up against were all pretty much the same Genre, an dplayed very similar sounding songs. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves and had a great gig, the Crowd really got behind us and that makes all the difference in the world, so thank you all so much.
Even though we didn't get to take the title home of top KZN band on the night we had some really Good Critics from the Judges, Both of them really liking the direction the band has been taking. Encouraging us to work on certain aspects to make us all the better for the future - at the end of the day stuff like this can only help us. I have no Idea of the line up, or when each band will play, all of this will be decided on the night. The hour is almost upon us when we must face our fears and stride forth, to an uncertain future, where we'll tread uncertain ground and hope to be left standing at the end of the evening... yes a little dramatic, but The National battle of the bands is apon us and the KZN leg is a one night ten band affair held right here in PMB. On Saturday the 9th of September "The Red Door" in PMB will play host to a score of bands from around our fair province and among them will be Zephyr. After speaking to Colin and Jeremy we decideded top enter - 'cause at the end of it at the least it should be good exposure.
So we blood ourselves to the competitive area of this industry, to stand up and take whatever may be thrown at us abuse or applause, even if we end up limping home we'll be able to hold our heads high and say we did battle, and battle our hearts out we did. (I sound Like Yoda - "mmm teach you I will.. yeeas mmm").
If we manage to be the one KZN band that does go through, we'll end up going to Gauteng, and exposing ourself to a whole new audience ("expose" is probably not the best word to use, it mighht give you the wrong impression of what we do). So we are exited and are currently working really hard on the songs we're going to be playing. So if anyone reading this is In 'Maritzburg on the night, come along, we'd appreciate the support.

It's been a while i know, I've been off on Holiday for a couple of weeks and am only now back, which means no to much has been happening on the Music front.
So what's lined up for the band... well were booked for Southern Cross Music Festival http://www.southerncrossmusic.co.za/ Held on the weekend from the 22nd - 25th of September this year. A little closer we'll be playing at the Fashion show PMB's UKZN campus, I'm not sure of the date yet, though will post it as soon as I have it confirmed. Other than that we're still looking forward to doing our recording sometime this year, we'll be meeting with Dave Birch this eve to get his coments on our rough recording we sent him. Hopefully he'll give us some positive criticism on the songs and then we'll be able to set a date with him and start working towards it.

Hey All, I know it's been a while since I've added, but I haven't had access to the web . Aswell as our recent inactivity as far as gig's go. Not to worry we shall shortly be rectifying this, though first a couple of us will be on holiday with our families.
We haven't been completely quiet we've been practicing hard and putting into place our plans for our recording. Recently we went down to Durban to speak to Dave Birch of Island Studios, and it was on the way back that Andrea (Colin's wife) decided the light was perfect for a photo shoot. Besides embarassing the band she managed to get some really cool shot's of us and some goofy ones. So I thought I'd put a couple up that you can laugh at or whatever.
Just in case you've never met or seen the band, I might as well do a bit of an introduction. Hey all... okay the next one is again being held at the big chill, were playing with a host of other artists, and yes the MC's are all going to be there again, and I'm sure we'll do a couple of colabo's again. We're celebrating 30 years of youth revolution. So get there and celebrate it with us, we'll be taken donations of money and tinned food, so bring something along if you can.. it's all being donated to I think it's called the "Angel Foundation". I'm sorry if I got it wrong, but it's going into hands where it will make the most difference.

The Red Door

Tuesday eve. at the Red Door was really great, it's always a pleasure to be playing there, Jamie's really got his sound sorted, and to be playing with Celtis, well what can you say. Thier celtic music really runs into your veins and gets you going, the crowd turnout was good and the response to both bands was brilliant. The Audience are the main reason we do this, and you guys definitley got us going.
I'm not Sure when the next gig is yet but it is on the cards we promise, and I will have some pictures of our last couple of gig's just as soon as I can get my hands on them.

The time is nigh... yes the time for southern cross music festival is creeping up on us, still a few months admittedly, but before you know it those months have gone. If any of you have been before you'll kmow it's a lovely festival, with a really awsome relaxed vibe. If you haven't been a sugest you go, you'll enjoy it.
I just confirmed with the organizer last night, Dave Falconer, that the Band Will be playing at this years one, held sometime at the end of September. All the details haven't been worked out yet, but as soon as we get the dates and all the rest we'll post them up here for you all to have a wee look see at.

Next Gig!

Life is beautiful, and it's a beautiful day down here in South Africa, the bluest sky you could imagine. I woke up this morning as with most to the call of birds, there was a definite nip in the air, though when you're expostulating like this I preffer to say it was a fresh morning. Anyway I dither, and Im talking like a toff (i just can't seem to stop). Okay the point of this blog was to let on the date of our next gig.
We've been asked to open for Celtis on Tuesday the 6th of June at the Red Door starting time will be betwen 7:30pm and 8pm. So come along, I assure you Celtis are worth seeing they play some great Celtic music, and if you happen to enjoy our music too, well all the better.

Wow what a gig, last night at the big chill was definitely one of the bands favourite to date. The Crowd were awsome, so if any of you are reading this and were there, thanks again guys.
As for the MC's well, they were free styling all over the place and it was a pleasure to do an awsome free Jam with them, what can we say we had a blast, and we are in the process of aranging a recording date so we can get a couple of our tracks down, so that we'll have some of our songs down for sale at our gigs.

We played at the Durban Folk club last night, it was a really great audience, so thanks, to those of you who were there. We're definitely planning on doing a recording of Sattelite sometime soon. The Cliffy's gig on Sunday also went down well despite all the problems with the weather, and Jeremy almost getting nocked on the head by a massive pole that was blown off the scafolding of the stage. Eventually as we realized the weather wasn't going to let up it was decided to move everything inside, it was a little cramped on the little stage, but it was fun and the audience were awsome. Unfortunately towards the end the PA system was playing up so we kept loosing vocals for our last couple songs.
At the moment we don't have any gigs lined up but we'll post them when we do.

Well splashy was awsome, great weekend and great music. Our gig went okay, but unfortunately mine and Jeremy's voices were going, but we managed it anyway. I hope to put up some pictures of splashy soon.
Our next Gig is going to be at Cliffy's in 'Maritzberg on the 30th of April, the Mondays a public Holiday, so everyone doesn't need to worry abou the Monday morning blues.

Above is one with Colin on the left, and the name we'd written in flames at New Years, I played around with photoshop to super impose it onto the main piture. They're pretty cool shot's because they cpture the mood of the practices and one day will make some great inside cover shot's for our album.

This is about to become the Blogspot for the Band zephyr, we hail from the midlands in the province of KwaZulu - Natal, from the country of South Africa.
Hope fully soon we'll be able to add more content to this blog, but for now this'll have to do.
